Benchmarking Survey Years
Organizations currently have 2 options for which CBECs survey year they wish to use 2012 or 2018. 2012 is the default for any organization created before April 2023, and any organization created after will default to 2018.
The national and building type averages changed very little between 2012 and 2018, however, regional averages changes quite a bit. This is because the CBECs survey switched the map it was using for climate regions from the U.S. Department of Energy, Building America program map in 2012 to the ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 169-2021 map in 2018. These maps are somewhat similar but have some notable difference which makes the regional averages EnergyTracer uses vary quite dramatically between 2012 and 2018.
