Energy Star Portfolio Manager

Introduction

EnergyTracer offers two ways to export data into Energy Star Portfolio Manager. The first way is through downloadable reports in the format of the portfolio manager uploaded templates. The second is through and automatic connection to the Portfolio Manager API and requires a license.

Downloadable Report

EnergyTracer offers exports of data into the format of Energy Star Portfolio Manager uploaded templates. These upload templates can be found on the Portfolio Manager site here. EnergyTracer's exports can be found on the reporting tab in the basic reports section. There are three export formats available: Portfolio Manager Bill Data, Portfolio Manager Buildings, and Portfolio Manager Buildings. All of these exports try to match the upload format of Portfolio manager as closely as possible, however, to ensure proper upload it is recommended to copy the data out of the EnergyTracer reports and paste in into the Portfolio Manager templates.

Automatic Sync

If the organization has a 'Portfolio Manager' license, then a tab named 'Portfolio Manager' will be available in the 'Data Connections' area of the organization settings. Before starting any syncing, all steps outlined in the below section 'Building and Account Data' must be completed. From this tab data can be synced manually for a range of data for each accounts. This is required for first time setup in order to backfill all EnergyTracer data into Portfolio Manager. After this backfill, monthly syncs can be scheduled by selecting a day of the month for the sync to take place and the month of data should be synced. It should be noted that any existing data in Portfolio Manager will be deleted for any month of EnergyTracer data synced.

Bill Data

EnergyTracer supports the export of electric, natural gas, water, and propane bills into Portfolio Manager. To ensure these bills get assigned to the proper Portfolio Manager site and meter, the Property ID from Portfolio Manager is to be copied into "Reference ID" field of the EnergyTracer buildings and the Meter ID is to be copied into the "Reference ID" of the EnergyTracer accounts. EnergyTracer utility accounts also have a second Reference ID to help handle uploading of solar data into Portfolio Manager. The different case for solar data are as follows:

  • No solar data
    • Enter the Portfolio Manager Meter ID into the EnergyTracer account Reference ID field
  • All solar data exists all on one EnergyTracer account
    • Enter the Portfolio Manager Meter ID for the Grid Meter into the first EnergyTracer account Reference ID field.
    • Enter the Portfolio Manager Meter ID for the Solar Meter into the second EnergyTracer account Reference ID field
  •  Grid data exists on EnergyTracer account 1 and solar data exists on EnergyTracer account 2
    • Enter the Portfolio Manager Meter ID for the Grid Meter into the first EnergyTracer account 1 Reference ID field.
    • Enter the Portfolio Manager Meter ID for the Solar Meter into the second EnergyTracer 1 account Reference ID field.
    • Enter the Portfolio Manager Meter ID for the Solar Meter into the first EnergyTracer 2 account Reference ID field.
